Engine Restoration and Overhaul
The heart of this 1982 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ46 project was the extensive engine work. Our team began with a thorough inspection and complete disassembly of the engine. After diagnosing the issues, we performed a head gasket removal and installation, ensuring a solid and reliable seal. To further improve the engine’s durability and performance, we replaced the water pump, motor mounts, and head bolts. These upgrades not only restored the engine’s integrity but also enhanced its longevity, making sure it runs smoothly for many more years of rugged use.
Wheels and Tires Upgrade
We kicked things off by boosting the Land Cruiser’s off-road capabilities with a new set of 946G Boost wheels paired with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires. This powerful combination not only adds to the vehicle's rugged aesthetic but also delivers exceptional traction and stability. Whether navigating challenging terrains or cruising down the highway, these upgrades ensure optimal control and performance, making the Land Cruiser unstoppable in any environment.
Brake and Clutch System Overhaul
Safety and handling were next on the list. We completely overhauled the brake and clutch systems to ensure the Land Cruiser’s performance matches its iconic build. This included the installation of a new brake master cylinder, clutch master and slave cylinders, and a brake booster. But we didn’t stop there—new front disc brakes were added for superior stopping power, modernizing the vehicle’s braking system for today’s demanding driving conditions. Paired with new filters and gaskets for the transfer case and transmission, these improvements provide smoother shifts and a more responsive driving experience.
Transmission and Suspension Enhancements
The Land Cruiser received a serious upgrade in off-road capability with the installation of a new 5-speed gearbox and a fully rebuilt transfer case. These changes provide smoother gear shifts and increased reliability in the toughest conditions. To tackle rougher terrain, we also fitted a Dobinson’s 2-inch lift kit, significantly increasing the vehicle's ground clearance. Along with a new steering damper, these enhancements give the Land Cruiser the ability to take on rocky paths and uneven landscapes with ease, while improving overall handling and ride comfort.
Final Touches
The finishing touches were all about making sure the Land Cruiser was ready for any adventure. We replaced the front wheel bearing seals, ensuring the drivetrain’s durability in harsh conditions, and installed a new parking brake cable to meet modern safety standards. These final details tied the entire build together, transforming the BJ46 into a fully refreshed, capable, and adventure-ready machine that stays true to its heritage.
